We were approached by the owners of this wonderful and spacious Farmhouse style residence in 2016 after having purchased the original home and property. The family already owned a home where they were content to live, collecting antiques and raising their children with plenty of room. However, a lovely 1.5 acre property came available on Lindeman and the imagination of the couple was captured by the potential.
The owners wanted a French Country look and feel to their new home, and our team worked closely with them to realize that vision of an open-concept home for large gatherings while still having areas where a private conversation or more intimate gathering could be had. We took on the project, and began to sketch out plans for a gut rehab and expansion. However, as we worked with the family we realized that to satisfy all their goals for design, energy efficiency and living space features, this needed to be a new construction project.
The exterior gives the home its country charm using tumbled stone and a patina that gives the appearance of age with modern durability and energy efficiency. The roofline has many facets, creating visual interest with peaks, gables and timber, particularly in the entrance where a rustic great door awaits family and guests.
The heart of this 8500 square foot home is the vast kitchen/family room/dining area/breakfast nook with a nearby sun room. An enormous 10 foot marble countertop anchors the kitchen, which blends into the other adjacent spaces where family and guests can circulate, gather or break out as they desire.
Timbers and shiplap give this modern home connection to the country charm the family desired. Large expanses of energy efficient windows bring in plenty of natural light. Among these custom windows are beautiful arched windows that act to draw the eye to the views outside.
Within the greatroom is a stone fireplace and mantle that provides a focus for the room and a cozy place to dwell. Throughout the house is custom white millwork to bridge old-world farmhouses and modern decor.
