Sustainable Design

From the way a design impacts the land surrounding it and the neighboring properties to the way it is situated on a lot to capture views or with consideration of solar orientation for daylighting to the finishes that are used whether they are manufactured close to the building site custom-made or even milled using trees or boulders harvested from the lot during the excavation phases of work, or perhaps finished with non-poisonous products to the design of the energy efficiency of the building envelope or the efficiencies of the mechanical and electrical systems and perhaps just as important as any of these the beauty of the design that is timeless and enamoring enough that it is never to be torn down everyone has their own desires when it comes to sustainability.

We at Jeff Day and Associates have poured our energies into understanding all of these aspects of sustainable design. Clients have come through our doors wanting to have a low carbon footprint or in some cases a near to zero energy use home, as well as produce their own energy and homes that are safe for their children who have allergies.

One of the wonderful things about sustainable design though is that it pays you back in spades! The energy efficiencies of homes and the solar orientation as well as the healthy choices in finishes have all played a role in giving a return on investment not only in energy costs but also the value of these homes.

Over the years we have been blessed to create many firsts in the world of sustainable design.
The projects we are celebrating on this website are only a few of those grand opportunities that we have been given.
